Privacy Policy for WhoShowUp
Last updated: July 21, 2026
WhoShowUp ("we", "us") helps you split bills and remember the meals, places, and people in your life. This policy explains what we collect and why.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
- Account info: when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo.
- Bill and expense data: restaurant names, items, prices, who claimed what, and settlement status for bills you create or participate in.
- Receipt photos: when you scan a receipt, the image is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) solely to extract the restaurant name and item list. We do not store the receipt image — it is discarded immediately after processing. Only the extracted text is saved to your account.
- Photos you choose to upload: if you add photos of dishes or restaurants to your food history, those images are stored and may be publicly visible within the app.
- Messages: if you message another user in the app, that message content is stored so your conversation history is available to both of you.
- Push notification tokens: if you enable notifications, we store a device token so we can send you updates about bill activity and messages.
HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use your information to operate the app's core features: splitting bills, tracking who owes what, showing your circle and shared history, sending notifications you've opted into, and improving the app's reliability.
THIRD PARTIES WE USE
- Google — for sign-in.
- Anthropic (Claude) — to read text off receipt photos you scan. Images are not retained by us after this step.
- Google Places / Unsplash — to show photos of restaurants and food. We send search queries to these services; we do not send your personal data to them.
- Supabase — our database and backend infrastructure host.
- Vercel — hosts our website and collects basic, privacy-friendly page-view analytics (no ad tracking, no cross-site tracking, no cookies used for advertising).
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
You can permanently delete your account at any time from the app's Profile settings. This removes your profile and cascades to your bills, messages you sent, photos, and other associated data. Some records tied to bills you participated in but did not create may remain, anonymized, since they represent other people's financial records too.
CHILDREN
WhoShowUp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll update the date above when we do.
